Job Summary:
Works under general direction to perform systems administration duties on large-scale computer systems in a data center environment.
Essential Functions:
Job Duties:
- Analyzes and remediates problems involving: operating systems, database systems, applications, and other technologies.
- Troubleshoots system components and recommends improvements in support of efficient, highly available data center operation.
- Designs and implements data system components under the direction of Managers and other levels of Systems Engineers.
- Works to identify and propose innovative and creative solutions that enhance or increase the efficiency of the services provided by Information Resources to the campus community.
- Develops and reviews specifications for data system components and services.
- Assists in the development of test plans and documentation of recovery procedures.
- Assists with the development of guidelines related to the installation of Operating Systems, Database software and other application systems.
- Support for Call Center (HEAT) incidents.
- Identifies and analyzes that impact of system security vulnerabilities in relation to the enterprise environment.
- Assists with responses to security incidents to prevent additional loss and obtains and preserves forensic evidence.
- Remains knowledgeable of changes in technology, industry practices, and state and federal regulatory requirements including FISMA, NIST FIPS, and other relevant publications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate's Degree in a technical field or equivalent.
- 5 years of job-related experience, 3 years of experience in a support position or role in an information systems environment.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Work may require additional skills including a basic knowledge of Tivoli Storage Manager, IBM ZOS, VAX/VMS, or other legacy environments.
- Work may require additional skills including application systems, database systems, or knowledge of specialty hardware appliances.
- Work may require working long periods of time to meet deadlines.
- Work requires ability to accurately interpret computer-issued error messages and take appropriate action.
- Work requires ability to design and implement system infrastructure changes.
- Work requires ability to design and implement systems administration tools, which integrate with other computing systems.

- Work requires basic knowledge of Microsoft/Linux/UNIX server operating systems.
- Work requires basic knowledge of Windows XP, Windows 7, Microsoft Office Suite; and/or

- Work requires initiative to improve productivity and quality of work.
- Work requires intermediate knowledge of at least one operating system and its commands/utilities at a user level; can edit files, issue commands, navigate the file system.
- Work requires strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of explaining moderately complex procedures in writing or verbally.
- May be required to submit to a federal background investigation.
- Will be scheduled to work during off-hours change windows that may fall outside of normal business hours or during the weekend. Will be periodically assigned after-hour support and able to be paged 24-7.
Additional Skills/Experience:
- Administer and troubleshoot enterprise Active Directory: users, groups, GPOs, OU design, delegation, gMSAs, and security
- Own the Windows Server lifecycle: build, standardize, upgrade, and decommission
- Lead server patching via MECM/SCCM, including windows, coordination, and remediation
- Monitor health, performance, and capacity using SCOM and automation
- Develop PowerShell automation to enforce standards and reduce manual work
- Support on prem and hybrid Windows workloads across VMware, Azure, AWS and GCP
- Provide DNS administration and recovery operations; EfficientIP and Rubrik preferred
- Troubleshoot and remediate Windows security controls, including firewall configuration, antivirus (Sophos preferred), and OS hardening
- Support M365 services relevant to Windows platforms, including OneDrive integration
- Mentor staff and maintain documentation and runbooks
