This role provides advanced technical expertise, establishes standards, and leads complex initiatives to ensure highly available, scalable, and efficient printing services supporting critical clinical operations. The ECSA Sr. acts as a subject matter expert (SME), mentor, and strategic partner across infrastructure, application, and endpoint teams.

Impact of Role
The Senior ECSA is a key technical leader responsible for ensuring the reliability and scalability of Epic client systems and printing services. This role directly impacts patient care by ensuring that critical documentation—such as orders, labels, and clinical reports—is delivered accurately and without delay.

Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Epic Systems Administration:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and support of Epic client infrastructure across all environments
  • Oversee system upgrades, patching strategies, and lifecycle management for Epic client systems
  • Establish performance baselines, monitoring strategies, and proactive system health management
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for high-impact or complex system issues

EPS / Printing Architecture & Leadership:
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for Epic Print Service (EPS) architecture and operations
  • Design and govern enterprise printing architecture, including queue strategy, failover design, and scalability models
  • Lead standardization of printer build processes (EPR/LWS), naming conventions, and configuration governance
  • Drive resolution of complex, cross-system printing issues affecting clinical workflows
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators for printing services (e.g., queue health, job processing efficiency)
  • Evaluate and implement improvements in printing technologies, workflows, and support models

Operational Leadership & Incident Management:
  • Lead response efforts for major incidents involving client systems or printing services
  • Act as Tier 4 escalation for critical issues requiring deep technical expertise
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action planning for recurring system or printing issues
  • Provide guidance on operational workflows and escalation paths for service desk and engineering teams

Automation & Engineering:
  • Architect and implement automation solutions to streamline system administration and printing operations
  • Develop reusable scripts, tools, and frameworks to optimize provisioning, monitoring, and support
  • Champion infrastructure-as-code and automation-first practices within the ECSA domain

Strategic Planning & Governance :
  • Define standards, policies, and best practices for Epic client systems and printing services
  • Influence roadmap decisions related to Epic infrastructure, printing modernization, and hosting transitions
  • Partner with leadership to plan capacity, resiliency, and future-state architecture
  • Provide expert guidance on client vs. hosted responsibility models, particularly for EPS and printing ownership boundaries

Collaboration & Mentorship:
  • Mentor and develop junior ECSAs and technical staff
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Epic application teams, infrastructure teams, and leadership
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives involving client systems, endpoint services, and Epic hosting teams
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and establish documentation standards across the team

Core Competencies (Senior Level):
Technical Expertise:
  • Advanced knowledge of Epic client systems architecture and dependencies
  • Deep expertise in EPS, print servers, and end-to-end printing workflows
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server, networking, and endpoint integration
  • Ability to design scalable and resilient system architectures

Problem Solving & Decision Making:
  • Expert-level troubleshooting across infrastructure, application, and endpoint layers
  • Ability to diagnose complex, ambiguous issues and lead resolution efforts
  • Strong analytical mindset with data-driven decision making

Leadership & Influence:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence cross-functional teams
  • Experience establishing standards, governance, and best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Operational Excellence:
  • Strong focus on reliability, performance, and continuous improvement
  • Experience with incident management, problem management, and service optimization
  • Ability to balance day-to-day operations with strategic initiatives

Required Qualifications:
  • Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) certification
  • Significant experience supporting Epic client systems in a large-scale healthcare environment
  • Advanced experience with EPS and enterprise printing infrastructure
  • Proven experience leading technical initiatives and solving complex system issues
  • Strong scripting and automation experience (e.g., PowerShell)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting Epic hosting or hybrid infrastructure models
  • Prior experience in a senior or lead ECSA role
  • Experience with large-scale environment standardization and transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with tools such as Kuiper and System Pulse

Work Environment & Expectations:
  • 24x7 mission-critical healthcare environment
