Job Description
  • We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Managed File Transfer (MFT) Engineer / System Analyst III to support and enhance enterprise MFT platforms within a large-scale environment, with a strong focus on driving AI adoption and implementation, delivering platform enhancements, advancing automation, and enabling smarter operational support.
  • This role is focused primarily on engineering, platform enhancements, automation, and ongoing project initiatives, with limited operational responsibilities.
  • The environment leverages IBM’s Sterling ecosystem, including Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and IBM Connect:Direct, and requires deep technical expertise to design, optimize, and automate secure file transfer solutions.
  • Primary production monitoring and Level 1 / Level 2 support are handled by an offshore support team; this role acts as an L3 escalation point when required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and enhance enterprise Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions using IBM Sterling platforms
  • Provide Level 3 (L3) on call and escalation support for production issues when escalated beyond offshore support teams
  • Focus on engineering initiatives, including:
    • Platform enhancements and optimization
    • Automation of MFT processes, monitoring, recovery, and alerting
    • Support for ongoing and new MFT related projects
  • Support and administer IBM Sterling technologies, including:
    • Sterling File Gateway (SFG)
    • Sterling Secure Proxy (SSP)
    • Sterling External Authentication Server (SEAS)
    • Sterling B2B Integrator (B2Bi)
    • IBM Connect:Direct
  • Analyze current systems and workflows to identify gaps, performance issues, and automation opportunities
  • Perform impact and gap analysis, designing and implementing configuration changes, integrations, or system improvements
  • Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions
  • Develop and maintain technical artifacts, including:
    • Integration and interface specifications
    • Test plans and deployment strategies
    • Support, operational, and design documentation
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on secure file transfer architecture and best practices
On Call & Support Model
  • Day to day production monitoring and support are handled by an offshore operations team
  • This role participates in the on call rotation only as an L3 escalation engineer
  • On call responsibilities focus on complex technical issues, root cause analysis, and permanent fixes, not routine operational support
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise integration or application platforms
  • Strong hands on experience with IBM Sterling MFT, especially Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and Connect:Direct (required)
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engineering enhancements, automation, and reliability improvements in MFT environments
  • Experience evaluating existing integration systems and recommending improvements to stability, scalability, and workflow efficiency
  • Hands on experience or strong interest in AI adoption and implementation, including:
    • Applying AI/ML or intelligent automation to integration platforms, monitoring, alerting, and incident analysis
    • Using AI driven tools to improve operational efficiency, proactive issue detection, and root cause analysis
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with distributed and remote teams
Preferred / Additional Skills
  • Experience with automation frameworks, scripting, or orchestration tools
  • Strong Linux/Unix knowledge and familiarity with enterprise scheduling systems
  • EDI experience in-depth is not required; emphasis is on SFG, Connect:Direct, automation, AI adoption, and modernization initiatives
