Integrating Healthcare CRM with Advanced API Solutions

In the competitive landscape of healthcare services, our client, a leading provider of dialysis treatments with a vast network of clinics across the United States, initiated a transformative journey to integrate Salesforce CRM Health Cloud into its operational framework. This initiative was aimed at enhancing holistic patient care.  To achieve this, the client enlisted the expertise of our project team, consisting of a seasoned MuleSoft

Architect who spearheaded the project for over two years, and 5 Sr. MuleSoft Developers.

CHALLENGE

Initially, the client faced significant challenges due to a lack of MuleSoft expertise, having transitioned from Java integration. The project demanded the creation of APIs from scratch, necessitating extensive training and support in application development and integration patterns.

APPROACH

The architect undertook a comprehensive approach to address these challenges:

  • Developed APIs from the ground up, establishing governance structures and design principles for integration.
  • Implemented DevOps pipelines for efficient configuration and deployment.
  • Utilized Splunk for monitoring, enabling proactive issue resolution and memory management.
  • Instituted alert mechanisms for critical application issues and service downtimes.

Key to the project's success was the architect's ability to define and implement two critical integration types with Salesforce HealthCloud: batch and bulk API processing. This ensured seamless record processing without loss. Additionally, Kafka was integrated into a Unix environment to manage the throughput of millions of patient records, maintaining full-time availability and auditability with a 90-day record audit trail.

IMPACT

The client has been a long-standing partner, with over 20 years of collaboration. The successful integration of MuleSoft to facilitate bi-directional connections with Salesforce HealthCloud marked a significant milestone. This integration not only streamlined patient and provider data management but also enhanced visibility into clinical records across systems, all centralized within Salesforce HealthCloud.

The result was a highly available, auditable, and customizable Salesforce HealthCloud interface that ensured comprehensive patient record integration. This project stands as a testament to the power of strategic API integration in healthcare, enabling real-time data access and streamlined operations.
