The Manager of UI Design oversees and directs various aspects of the application design life cycle from feature request to development completion, which consists of: concept development, planning, requirements analysis, design, development, design review to ensure that the delivered products exceed client expectations. The manager will be lead a team of 4-6 of UI design professionals and will manage team capacity, priorities, and planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and management of Design team tasks/deliverables including estimating timelines, establishing priorities, ensuring tasks are complete
- Managing Design team capacity and communicating resource availability to dependent teams
- Attending internal and client-facing status meetings and following up on Design team action items and requirements
- Responsible for alleviating and/or preventing blocks by communicating requirements with other departments
- Attend sprint retrospectives and technical grooming sessions
- Mentoring and pairing with leads and designers as needed
- Working closely with QA department to deliver quality releases
- Track and manage contract milestones and anticipated completion dates. Work with project managers, product managers, and development managers to and communicate milestone schedules.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders and contributors to align resources and internal schedules to support client product release and client delivery commitments. Cross-functional teams include Development, Services, Client Services, IT & Security, and Sales.
- Work with designers and developers to ensure features are implemented as designed
- Work with Director of Product Management, business analysts, and designers to develop appropriate documentation.
- Align product roadmap delivery dates and client-launch commitments; ensure on-time delivery and contingency planning; approve all external date commitments.
- Track and produce monthly report of design team throughput, burn down trends, budget compliance, and schedule accuracy.
- Provide monthly reports that summarize revised labor forecasts based on assumptions and known workloads.
- Working with Professional Services team to gather requirements and deliver estimates and critical updates throughout the implementations process
- Working with Product Management to collaborate through creative brainstorming sessions, assist in writing user stories/functional requirements
- Working with application development team to deliver functional requirements and ensure features are built to specifications
- Reporting accomplishments, goals, issues and deliverable statuses to VP of Product Management and other team members
- Researching technologies and frameworks to increase efficiency and keep us on the leading edge
- Working with business development to aid in closing sales, growing relationships and demonstrating functionality
General Qualification Requirements
- Agile software development team management experience
- Experience working with designers and developers to implement products
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Experience writing detailed business requirements
- Ability to quickly understand business problems and communicate technical solutions in understandable terms
- Good understanding of technology – specifically enterprise software development
- Experience with Jira issue & project tracking platform
