Solving Onboarding Delays with Talent Academy Upskilling

Our client, a global financial institution, is a leader in banking, business, and travel services. Their Information Security team plays a critical role in protecting customer and enterprise data while ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple business units.

CHALLENGE

The client was undergoing a transition in their onboarding processes, which created unexpected delays in consultant start dates.

  • Over the past year, 11 consultants successfully started contract roles, but inconsistent processing times made it difficult to project start dates accurately.
  • Due to security protocols, credentials could only be generated after contract processing was fully completed, causing delays of up to two weeks for some hires.
  • These delays created frustration and uncertainty for both consultants and hiring managers, posing a risk of candidate attrition before their official start date.

APPROACH

During a leadership visit, Talent Groups identified an opportunity to use Talent Academy to maintain consultant engagement during onboarding delays. When a senior-level consultant experienced multiple start date postponements, there was growing concern about retaining him. After discussing possible solutions, Talent Groups provided him with access to Talent Academy, allowing him to upskill while waiting for his contract to be processed. Initially hesitant, the consultant quickly saw the value in continuous learning and continued using the platform throughout his contract. Seeing the success of this approach, we extended Talent Academy access to six additional consultants within the client’s Information Security team, helping them remain engaged and further develop their expertise. Additionally, a senior engineer and frequent interview panelist at the company recognized the benefits and also began using Talent Academy, reinforcing its value within the organization.

IMPACT

Talent Academy transformed the onboarding experience, keeping consultants engaged while mitigating the stress of delayed start dates.

  • Retention improved: Consultants remained committed despite onboarding delays, reducing early attrition.
  • Consultants gained valuable skills: Even senior-level professionals appreciated having access to continuous learning.
  • Strategic hiring advantage: Key stakeholders within the Information Security team recognized the long-term value of integrating upskilling into their hiring strategy, enabling them to secure stronger candidates, reduce ramp-up time, and drive better project outcomes.
