Strategic Upskilling: Enhancing Digital Marketing Expertise Through Talent Development

Our client is a nationally recognized organization that provides healthcare-related solutions aimed at improving access to medications and enhancing patient care. They play a key role in supporting federally governed programs, including the 340B government program, also known as the Prime Vendor Program (PVP), which helps healthcare providers optimize resources for underserved populations. Additionally, they manage training, certifications, and continuing education initiatives within this space.

Talent Groups has partnered with this client since 2000, successfully placing over 45 consultants within the organization.

CHALLENGE

Talent Groups placed a consultant that was initially engaged as a Digital Marketing Generalist, responsible for managing the organization's digital marketing efforts using Salesforce. Over nine months, he received highly positive reviews for his contributions. However, as the organization’s marketing strategies expanded, so did the requirements for the role.

The hiring manager approached us, explaining that the consultant’s position was shifting due to the organization’s growing needs. Rather than a generalist, they now required a specialist with advanced expertise in Salesforce Account Engagement (formerly Pardot)—someone proficient in email coding and building IO campaigns within the platform. Given these new demands, their plan was to replace the consultant with a more technically specialized resource.

APPROACH

Understanding the importance of retaining experienced talent, and with our desire to invest in our team’s professional development, Talent Groups proposed an upskilling strategy to enhance the consultant’s capabilities rather than replace him. Partnering with the client, we facilitated his professional development through our Talent Academy. Leadership supported the initiative, enabling him to expand his expertise through continuing education and training.

With Talent Groups’ guidance, the consultant pursued advanced learning and, in 2023, achieved the Pardot Prodigy Master Level Certification. This strategic investment not only bridged the immediate skills gap but also ensured continuity and long-term value for the organization.

IMPACT

The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, as they were able to retain domain knowledge while ensuring their marketing initiatives continued to scale effectively. The consultant’s newly acquired expertise allowed him to remain in the role for another year, with plans for conversion to a full-time position.

By prioritizing learning and development, Talent Groups helped the client optimize resources while fostering long-term talent retention.
