CLIENT OVERVIEW
Talent Groups partnered with a nonprofit, multispecialty academic medical center recognized for delivering advanced clinical care to a diverse global patient population. As one of the largest health systems in the United States, the organization employs more than 70,000 physicians and staff across multiple locations.
The health system is widely respected for its commitment to high-quality patient care, clinical innovation, and leadership in medical research and education.
CHALLENGE
The health system was preparing for a critical Epic Beaker implementation and needed to complete key build and testing activities within an accelerated go-live timeline. Following the initial deployment, the organization also required ongoing support to stabilize operations, prepare for additional laboratory go-lives, and manage a growing volume of incident requests impacting frontline lab caregivers.
Operating across multiple locations and states added further complexity, increasing the need for consistent workflows, rapid issue resolution, and proactive escalation management. To successfully meet these demands, the organization required specialized expertise in Epic Beaker configuration and laboratory instrument interface integration to strengthen internal team capacity and maintain continuity of patient care services.
APPROACH
To support the health system’s Epic Beaker implementation and post-go-live stabilization efforts, Talent Groups deployed an experienced System Analyst with deep expertise in large, multi-site laboratory environments. The consultant brought Epic Beaker CP, AP, and LAB400 certifications, along with extensive experience integrating laboratory information systems through Epic Bridges to support complex clinical workflows.
Working as an embedded member of the Beaker team, the consultant contributed to key build and validation activities, including Microbiology configuration, auto-verification testing, send-out workflow design, and instrument interface testing. They also played a critical role in resolving production incidents, supporting enhancement requests, and providing weekend on-call coverage to ensure timely issue resolution for lab caregivers.
This hands-on, operationally focused support helped strengthen the organization’s ability to maintain system performance, prepare for additional laboratory go-lives, and sustain continuity of laboratory services across multiple locations.
IMPACT
The consultant’s deep expertise in Epic Beaker configuration and laboratory instrument interfaces enabled the health system to complete critical build and testing milestones on schedule, supporting a successful go-live and minimizing disruption to laboratory operations. Post-implementation, the consultant provided rapid incident resolution and system stabilization support, helping caregivers maintain efficient workflows and reducing delays in diagnostic and treatment processes.
By proactively addressing system-wide downtime issues and coordinating closely with instrument vendors, the consultant helped identify and resolve complex technical challenges affecting multiple teams. This timely support improved user confidence in the system and strengthened operational continuity across high-acuity care environments.
The engagement had a direct impact on patient care delivery, enabling pathologists, blood bank staff, and physicians to access reliable laboratory data when needed most. In critical care situations, including time-sensitive surgical procedures, the consultant’s responsiveness contributed to faster issue resolution and helped clinical teams proceed with treatment plans without avoidable delays.
