QCG is Celebrating Women's History Month

This March the team at Queen is celebrating Women’s History Month by recognizing and honoring some of the great women pioneers in tech, and also helping to support future women leaders.

We're celebrating Women’s History Month by recognizing some of the great women pioneers in tech:

  • Sister Mary Keller - Mary, along with 2 other scientists, developed the BASIC computer programming language. Mary is also the first woman to ever receive a Ph. D. in computer science.
  • Kathrine Johnson - One of 3 black students to attend West Virginia’s graduate college. As a mathematician for NASA, her manual calculations were critical in space missions, including the first U.S. spaceflight.
  • Elizabeth Feinler - Born in 1931, Elizabeth became the director of ARPANET, Defense Data Network, and the Network Information Center. She’s the one to thank for the dot coms, dot nets, and dot govs used daily.
  • Annie Easley - One of four African Americans who worked at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) becoming a programmer and later developing the code that led to the development of batteries used in hybrid cars.
  • Mary Wilkes - Helped develop the first personal computer and was also the first person to have a PC in her home.
