SQL Optimization for a Leading Construction Equipment Provider

The client is a North American leader in the tower crane and construction hoist industry, serving the construction sector since 1968. Their systems support nearly all core business applications, including accounting, shipping, and operations, making IT performance essential to daily productivity.

CHALLENGE

As part of a long-term migration from legacy systems to a modern platform, the client uncovered major performance issues within its SQL and Data environment. Their internal project lead identified bottlenecks tied to stored procedures and legacy-written queries, creating slow-loading pages, inefficiencies in written code, and system delays.

Compounding the issue was the scale: a half-terabyte dataset spread across 12 databases. Without immediate remediation, the risk of disruption threatened both ongoing operations and the successful completion of their multi-year migration project. The client needed an SQL SME who could:

  • Review and analyze stored procedures and queries.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Optimize database operations through indexing and best practices.
  • Deliver a remediation roadmap while assisting with immediate fixes.

APPROACH

Talent Groups engaged one of our specialized Data Analysts to provide project-based services tailored to the client’s needs. Our consultant worked closely with the project lead to:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of SQL code across 12 databases.
  • Identify root causes of performance bottlenecks, including inefficient queries and indexing gaps.
  • Deliver a roadmap for optimization, outlining remediation strategies and long-term best practices.
  • Provide hands-on support with code fixes and database optimization to accelerate results.

By aligning our project services model to the client’s urgent requirements, we delivered both immediate value and a framework for sustained database health.

IMPACT

The SQL optimization project was completed on time and within budget, restoring confidence in the client’s system migration efforts.

Key outcomes included:

Improved performance: Database optimization resolved bottlenecks and improved system responsiveness.

✔  Operational continuity: Eliminated slow-loading pages and inefficiencies that had hindered critical applications.

✔  Future readiness: Delivered a clear roadmap to prevent recurring issues, supporting long-term scalability.

Knowledge transfer: Provided expertise beyond the client’s internal team, strengthening their ability to maintain and evolve the platform.

By filling a critical skill gap with the right project resource, Talent Groups helped the client move their multi-year system migration forward without disruption, positioning them for success in modernizing operations across accounting, shipping, and beyond.

Talent Groups connects specialized IT talent with complex project needs, delivering both short-term expertise and long-term solutions.
